There’s a lot you probably don’t know about Norway, but don’t [music] fret.Your super reliable Norwegian guide is here.Life Cocoa Puff.
puff:
[C]a hollow piece of light pastry that is filled with cream, jam, etc. 千层酥;奶油酥;泡芙
Yeah, that was cringe. The most interesting Norwegian tradition has to be the Russ fighting.Basically, in Norway,we spend the last month of our, senior year [music] to remove, all of our innocence, before it’s finally time to move up to the big adult world.
senior
[only before noun](NAmE) connected with the last year in high school or college (高中或大学)毕业年级的
the senior prom
毕业年级舞会
For the record, all of the Russ are above the age of 18.People will party everyday in their expensive painted vans. They’ll pretty much act like wild [music] animals.Blast loud music in the streets, do the hanky pankyon the road and the bushes, anywhere really.Of course, the most degenerate participants in this tradition do not make up the whole, but when we Norwegians think of the Russ times, it’s pretty much just drinking, wango tango, and partying. But, they do have their own uniforms.Typically, red overalls and a red [music] hat,but there are also other colors.
And the colors actually symbolize which field they’re studying. For starters, red means college preparatory subjects.Blue means economy service and sales.Black is vocational courses like [music] electronics, carpentry, and culinary programs. And lastly, green is for agricultural courses.Green Russ were always the [music] rarest. So, whenever I saw one as a kid,it was like finding a four-leaf clover. But yeah, becoming a Russ has been a prevalent, coming of age ritual for the, majority of Norwegian youth. It’s a very common tradition, but we haven’t even gotten, to the bread >> [music] >> and butter of the Russ fighting world. You know Pokémon cards, right?I mean, who doesn’t?Pokémon cards are one of the, if not the most popular, trading cards in the world.[music] But in Norway, there are some cards that might even beat these ones.Namely, Russ cards,[music] or Russ cards.Yeah, for some reason, the party crazed wild Russ, decided that making their own cards.
[music] and handing them out to kids was a fitting idea. It’s pretty funny when you think about it.Here you have these high school seniors [music] that be doing the wildest stuff, yet the people in Norway who are most obsessed and look up to the Russ, are elementary school students. And it’s purely because of these [music] cards.I’m not kidding. They will scout out these red painted teenagers like assassins, seeking their next target.I remember that despite my social anxiety growing [music] up,I would still walk up to them and beg for a Russa card.Strangely,I think this might [music] have, been a secret government plan, to decrease the introverted nature, of Norwegians, because my god,the amount of times I would walk up to the Russ and say,“Can I have a Russa card?” [music] It was a lot.Collectible trinkets truly are addictive.Look at this thing. They don’t even look that good. This compared to a Pokémon card is night and day.I remember being yet again super competitive with my Russa card collection.
Like the stack was hella thick at the end of May [music] 17th.Me and my classmates would compare decks afterwards, showing off our great haul.I remember I usually had one of the bigger collections. The quality of the cards rarely mattered.[music] It was more about collecting as many as possible to widen your stack.I wish I still had them so I could show them [music] off.The cards include a picture, a phone number,an address, a quote, and the name of the person, school,[music] and their graduating year.Typically, the number and address slots are used for jokes.Same [music] with the quote.I remember reading some pretty wild words on these cards.Still don’t get why elementary school students specifically [music], love these things. Now that I’ve gone over the more innocent nature of the Russa fighting, let us dive into the part I like to call, “Oh my god,Norway. Are you serious?” Russaknuter, or directly translated Russ knots. What is a Russ knot, you may ask.
Well, to spice up this [music] celebratory month even further, the Norwegians created a long list of challenges, and I mean long list. When I googled the Russ knots, it gave me 100 challenges, and those were only the most famous [music] ones. And these challenges can get pretty insane.Since a [music] fair amount of uh you know, the devil’s soda is involved in the Russ times. Why they are called knots, however,is because [music] once the challenge is completed, you get to tie an object to your russ hat string. An object that symbolizes the task.If you see a russ with a jack that hat,[music] you know they’ve been up to some wild things. You don’t have to participate in the wilder side of the russ fighting. There are even Christian russ who don’t drink at all during this period. The russ times are very notorious however for being a month of absolute, degeneracy, and I’ll say it has that reputation for [music] a reason.Russ are both beloved and hated at the same time.
Like the russ can really be a menace during May.It wouldn’t be strange to hear, loud based up obnoxious songs playing in your neighborhood at 3:00 a.m.I remember waking up one night, to the most ear ache inducing, beats so loud it made my bed, shake. But it’s such a prevalent part of our culture that most people just accept it.Let’s talk about buses because the buses alone need their own segment.Do you know what a good russ bus costs?$50,000 or 500,000 Norwegian kroner.>> [music] >> You could buy a boat, invest in a house, and travel the world with this kind of cash. But no, let’s buy a bus that we’re going to use for a month, insert a stripper pole, and graffiti the hell out of the outside, and just party, drink, kick Sorry, I’m a hater, okay? At school, people would form groups and, team up to pay for these [music], expensive vehicles.Getting part-time jobs, begging their parents for cash, etc. Some [music] just avoid getting a bus all together because it’s so expensive.
and instead just drive to the bigger party arrangements.[music] Oh, what are the arrangements you may ask?The russ have something we call [music] russetreff. It’s basically a big party where all the russ in one region, unite for a huge get together. The one I heard the most fuss about growing [music] up was the one in Tryvann. All the russ want to go and join in on the Tryvann festivities. There’s a huge concert and tons of people there.Sounds like my [music] worst nightmare to be honest, but they seem to enjoy it.Oh, there’s actually more lore.Okay, so these russ groups I have mentioned,[music] you know Now they also like to do?Create music. If you’re a big group like a a popular [music] one with a huge budget, then you can actually gain some traction in the music scene. It might also be independent [music] artists, who cater their music to the Russ as well. Not really sure, but there is a genre of music in Norway that’s literally called Russ music, and it’s very popular.
Here are some of the most famous songs.Sansa [music] 2015, Duman 2019,Disco Demolition 2019 and Shaken by Tix.There’s a very famous artist, in Norway named Tix who is known, for his Russ music. If you walk up to someone in Norway and ask them about Tix,they’ll definitely know who you’re referring to.Personally, I’ve never really been a fan of this style of music. It has a lot of profanity in it and they’re [music] quite intense to the ears, but Tix has a good voice, I will admit. So, did you expect [music] Norway to have such an interesting graduation ritual? We don’t really celebrate prom.Instead, we have a month of batch crazy shenanigans. Some would maybe prefer this [music] over prom, you tell me.Although I was never a Russ myself and have never really seen the appeal,I do think it’s cool that we have our own little tradition, here in [music] Norway. That’s all for today and I’ll see y’all later.Bye.I want to give a big shout-out to my patrons who support my livelihood.
