AI kills your ability to think

And then the main thing with my take, and I’ve said this before,is using AI without thinking.I was listening to a podcast that was talking about deskilling and like losing, your ability to do a highly skilled job or whatever it is,whether that’s software development or writing, or like it could be multiple things, right?Like like a higher skilled job.Losing those skills by over-reliance on AI.But yeah, no,I I’m deeply afraid of deskilling.I think that’s a malaise, that’s going to hit broader society more and more as AI increases because, as human beings we’re so lazy,we are so at easy,it’s so easy for us to just give up that cognitive, load without realizing what we’re losing. It’s just so Yeah, but it’s it’s not though innovation.Like it is obviously true, but people don’t think this way.Ob-, Or else we wouldn’t be where we are today with everybody vibe coding stuff, right?I mean, okay, there’s a bit of nuance in this.If you’re vibe coding something, because you don’t care about.

learning how to code and you, just want to like make a proof, of concept to then take to a, team to actually make as a real, thing, different. However, if you’re vibe coding and legitimately trying to make money, you know, off of people and selling selling a product, and not and having that be built purely by AI and and having it,you know, that’s negligent.Another question that sometimes, challenges me is is deskilling, really as bad as we think? What if it’s just transformation of one skill into another? My my rebuttal to that, Zada,is you make a good point.I argue that given the nature of the way AI is,what critical skill is replacing, the hard skill of programming or writing or whatever when you’re using AI?Is it you just using the AI and learning how to prompt it?Because if so, that’s trivial,in my opinion. There’s nothing there. And like I think again,I think there’s something to be said about learning tooling around existing LLMs, for programming, right?Whether that’s Claude code, whether that’s Cursor,

whatever it is, like learning these workflows and and whatever. But fine, there’s some complicated stuff with that, sure.I’ll give you that. However, it’s not that hard.Like the level of of critical thinking that’s required, to write us let’s say a paper and like get AI to write it for you. It’s so vastly different. And in the one hand, sure, you know,AI is allowing people who otherwise weren’t able to code to to make things. And that’s cool. But I think it’s it’s dangerous at the same time.Cuz like and and the thing is is is this is the great thing. Is often people will say, “Oh,you just have to learn how to prompt engineer. You have to learn how to use AI.” I don’t think, there’s a right or wrong way to do it.Like sure, there’s these workflows as I was talking about with with software development. But as far as the prompt goes, like there’s some things that are obvious.Like you can be more specific with your prompts, these sorts of things. It helps, right?

But as far as like adding in certain keywords and not,to me it’s like it reminds me of like people going to like the Oracle of Delphi. It’s faith-based.You steal men’s, argument by saying we know less about farming than in our ancestry. Some of these going on argue that’s bad.Yeah, the difference with that is is farming, let me put it this way.If you really want to farm, maybe this is where software development’s going.I don’t know. This is another idea that I have.If you really want to be a farmer, you can still be a farmer.Sure, there are tools that help you farm, but you still have to think logistically about how to run the farm.I don’t think AI does that.AI fundamentally replaces that process of critically thinking through problem, right?Or it threatens it.Does it actually do a good job? That’s another totally different conversation. As far as farming goes, logistics are still involved. If you really want to be a farmer, sure,

the automation has gotten to such where that we need much fewer farmers, but the critical design around how to run a farm efficiently still requires, human critical thinking. That is the fundamental crux, I think,of of the AI issue. And and like the other thing, too,is like if you want to like make a farm, like a greenhouse in your backyard and grow your own vegetables, there’s still a lot of skill in that.Just as, you know, like but but I don’t think like just it’s not comparable with with AI.We’re dealing with a fundamentally different kettle of worms.I still find the force multiplier argument to be the most compelling. You can use AI to supercharge your learning, or you can use it as a crutch.Yeah.>> I just knowing me,I know I would be way too like way too apt to use it as a crutch. But like because of the timelines, that we have and again and and, people have echoed this and I’m, like finally starting to realize, like you know I’m living it.It’s like because of the timelines that management.

is are going to start having it’s impossible, to not use it as a crutch, right? So that’s tricky. That’s a tricky problem that I don’t have an answer to right now.But but but yeah, it’s it’s scary.I don’t know.I hope there’s negative consequences, for that kind of behavior at a corporate level.I don’t know if there will be, but I hope there will be.And then they’ll have to backpedal, and and do more manual code reviews and have strict regulations, on on letting the AI go willy-nilly.There will be a correction, yeah.Yeah, I think it’s already starting. It’s not and again, this is the classic it’s not about the AI,it’s about how people use the, AI thing in the sense of like, companies pushing it,right? The signals are just too strong that there’s some heavy AI sector >> postures.Yeah, exactly.
